This short film explores a creative and collaborative arts-based learning approach to a first-year module within the Education Studies degree at the University of Chester. Students took part in three immersive theatre experiences alongside an actor (pre Covid) to enable and develop understanding of the start of mass education in the 19th century. Through these sessions, designed by the presenters and the actor involved, students fostered an understanding of the main issues arising from education of the time and challenged there occurring themes apparent in their experience of today’s education system. This creative approach enabled students to challenge assumptions, emotionally connect with the subject and each other, which also enhanced and nurtured a sense of community within the student group. This film captures moments from the session as well as student, tutor and actor reflections.
This presentation will take place on Zoom. After booking you will receive an email with the link and passcode a few days before the event.
