Wellbeing Practical Workshop How Does Hip Hop Heal Trauma?

Hip Hop HEALS is a BAME-led organisation that bridges the gap between Hip Hop and creative, therapeutic writing. We are also service user led and provide specialist, tailored workshop programmes for under 25s. Our Board of Directors has over 70 years combined experience of working with ethnically diverse communities through education, offending, youth work and mental health.

HipHop Therapy is a prominent intervention in the US that supports people from economically disadvantaged communities. It is practically unknown in the UK yet has a proven positive impact that has reshaped many lives. It is used to assist with PTSD, trauma and grief which are difficult to treat, let alone manage.

Our evidence-based practice is trauma-informed. All our work stems from founder Kiz’s lived experience of suicide, grief, and PTSD. Sadly, suicide is reported as the biggest killer of young people and men in the UK today (RCPCH). It’s time to change this.

In this presentation you will:

1. Learn the neuroscience behind Hip Hop Therapy
2. Understand how trauma impacts people from Minority Ethnic communities differently
3. Gain tools to take-away and employ in your practice

Hip Hop HEALS offer tried and tested creative mood-boosting activities based on music and lyrics. Come and explore positive UK Bass music from reggae to rap. We will draw inspiration from MC’s storytelling through song to express ourselves and generate wellbeing.

This presentation will take place on Zoom. After booking you will receive an email with the link and passcode a few days before the event.
