Kitaya.box as accessible learning in lockdown
This paper will look at my work as a community art educator and the use of architecture as an educational agent. I will explore the several ways I use architecture as a learning tool: in the community through my installations, in schools conducting architecture workshops, and commercially through Kitaya.box.
Kitaya was developed during lockdown; as a result of social distancing measures as I was unable to continue my usual practice and needed to develop a new means of engagement. Kitaya is a kinaesthetic box for families, schools and senior citizens. It is based on topics I will explore during my Doctorate, these are: informal learning, co-constructive methodology and the educative city.
Kitaya breaks the boundaries of formal higher education, bringing research to the real world. This year I was also a finalist of the Venture Programme (University of Chester) and won a grant, a business mentorship and shortly afterwards, landed an investor which has helped a growing team to invest in high quality materials.
This presentation will take place on Zoom. After booking you will receive an email with the link and passcode a few days before the event.
