The Digital World Presentation

One of the greatest challenges in education is making learning meaningful to learners. The outbreak of COVID-19 has profoundly altered all aspects of life, including education, yet there is always room for creativity. The purpose of this presentation is to explore how poetry is one creative approach that can further student teachers’ engagement and learning. I draw on evidence from my doctoral thesis and current research to illustrate the benefits of integrating poetry in teaching and learning to help future teachers develop skills in creative practices as a component of professional development. Found poetry, as an arts-based research method, envisions new meanings and encourages even the most reluctant students to speak clearly and creatively. Through using found poetry students are given the opportunity to re-read with purpose. I will present examples from my students’ works; turning traditional reading texts into found poems, performing and sharing them with the class.

This presentation will take place on Zoom. After booking you will receive an email with the link and passcode a few days before the event.
