A Christmas lecture with Dr Christopher Lewis

Harpsichordist and lecturer Dr Christopher D. Lewis presents the story of Handel’s masterpiece Messiah.

In this lecture, he will explore how the work became a Christmas tradition for much of the world, as told through recorded performances of the work across the course of the twentieth century and beyond.

How, and why did performance of this work change so dramatically during the course of the twentieth century? Most importantly what is it about the work that allowed it to become so widely adored and extensively performed.
