Colette is no ordinary period biopic of the writer best known for Gigi. Colette (Keira Knightley) is married to Henry ‘Willy’ Gauthier-Villars (Dominic West) – a notorious libertine who plucks her from her rural existence in Burgundy and places her Paris. There he encourages her to write stories of her childhood – which he takes and publishes under his own name to great acclaim. But Colette is no shrinking violet and when she decides she wants to take back control she steps out in style.

Both Knightley and West are on top form delivering performances that are exhilarating and entertaining and despite its period setting Colette feels extremely modern.
