Following the death of her father, Alice (Ruth Wilson) returns to the village she grew up to make a claim on the tenancy of the family farm. Managed by her estranged brother Joe, the farm is in a state of rack and ruin but Alice is determined to make it work rather than see it sold. In a series of haunting flashbacks Alice and Joe’s troubled childhood is slowly revealed as the film moves toward a harrowing climax.

Directed by British auteur Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant) Dark River is driven by a remarkable performance by Ruth Wilson.
