A working class woman from Liverpool decides to go to university in the hope she can find a better life. Written by Willy Russell.
Join us after the screening for a discussion about Northern Identity with emerging Northern voices.
Taking part in the discussion will be novelist James Rice (author of Alice and the Fly), Danielle Jawando (storyline writer for Coronation Street and author of And the Stars Were Buring Brightly due out in 2020), and poet Ian Walker (winner of the 2016 Borough Prize Live Canon International Poetry Competition). We’ll be talking the North and how it factors into their work, the idea of northern identity (as a writer and a person), and the importance of stories that exist outside of the capital.
There will be a short 3 minute archive film before the feature made in partnership by Film Hub North, The Great Exhibition of The North and the film archives – North West, Yorkshire, and North East – celebrating the North as captured on film over the past 120 years.
