Join us for a big birthday celebration for 30 years of Elmer!
We’re celebrating with colours, crafts and storytelling. So come and get your face painted, play some games and embrace your own uniqueness!
Don’t forget to wear the most vibrant colours in your wardrobe!
This event has been organised by Storyhouse’s Young Leaders. Here’s a message from them:
On the 25 May, Storyhouse is celebrating 30 years since the publication of Elmer. As everyone knows, Elmer is a book about a patchwork elephant learning to embrace their individuality and uniqueness. We are going to encourage children to embrace their own individuality, uniqueness, and creativity through a range of craft activities, games, and storytelling.
Fox, a Young Leader, and Neill, a Masters student, will be holding interactive storytelling sessions in the den. The children will take part in various craft activities, including colouring a giant Elmer, making patches which I will sew into a patchwork blanket for the Elmer in the library, and making an elephant mask. There will also be face painting (which the kids will be able to design), pin the tail on Elmer, and a hoop game (throwing hoops on an elephant trunk). We hope to provide cookies. When they arrive, the kids will each get an “Elephant Passport” and will gain a stamp at each activity station. We will be decorating Storyhouse with elephants and bright colours. We will also have posters around with fun facts about elephants.
Choose a time slot – either morning (10am – 12pm) or afternoon (12pm – 2pm).
Make sure you arrive by 11am or 1pm to ensure you get to enjoy all the fun!
