Classic poetry read aloud by an actor is one of life’s great pleasures, so here is an evening to savour for poetry lovers. Sit back and enjoy a wonderful poetic journey featuring the English language’s greatest (dead!) poets with the very much alive poet Glyn Maxwell aided by an experienced actor, directed by Storyhouse’s Alex Clifton.
As well as readings of some of the great poems from the likes of Keats, Byron and Yeats, this full-length event, with an interval, will share the uniquely inventive premise of Maxwell’s new book which takes the form of a Q and A with the great poets of the past. What would you ask Keats if you met him? What about Byron, Yeats, Emily Dickinson, the Brontës, the Brownings? Glyn Maxwell uses the dead poets’ diaries, essays and letters verbatim to answer our questions and to provide in passing a thoroughly entertaining guide to great English poetry.
