Master storyteller Craig Charles presents a wonderfully enchanted wintery tale for all the family, scored by a live orchestra. The perfect Christmas treat!
Following his incredible Scary Fairy performance at Storyhouse earlier this year, actor and broadcaster Craig Charles is back with the story of Hansel and Gretel in his own words and inimitable style.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night, Craig Charles’ new poetic version of the tale of Hansel and Gretel is full of twists and turns, menace and humour guaranteed to delight anyone of any age, who loves music, storytelling and amazing live experiences.
The music has been specially arranged for this concert by composer Iain Farrington (Horrible Histories, Wallace and Gromit, 2012 Opening Ceremony), and the orchestral score depicts the action, with each character having their own melody that changes and develops throughout the story.
Storyhouse’s orchestra Ensemble Deva will begin the evening with magical festive favourites:
Humperdinck – Hansel and Gretel Overture
Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker Suite
Johann Strauss, Snr. – Radetzky March
