In On The Act is a brand new podcast created by us – the Young Programmers, part of Young Storyhouse.
Who are the Young Programmers?
We are a group of 14-25 year olds who (pre-pandemic) meet at Storyhouse and learn from arts industry professionals how to organise and run events and festivals, culminating in us creating our very own event or festival.
What is In On The Act?
As organising real-life events hasn’t been possible in 2020, we have spent the last few months meeting virtually to produce a podcast series to share all that we’ve learnt about the arts industry. We’ve interviewed actors, creatives and backstage teams to explore the world of theatre, how it has changed in 2020, and what theatre means to us all – in lockdown and in life!
We’ll release one episode a week, every Monday at 7pm.
1. Creativity in Lockdown – listen now!
A discussion on how to stay productive and active during these uncertain times as we’re stuck indoors. Join us as we talk to some of our Young Storyhouse creatives and find out how they have been keeping themselves busy during lockdown. Featuring Jayde, Harry and Nell from Young Storyhouse.
Episode #2: Backstage in the Spotlight – listen now!
In this episode we will shine a spotlight on the backstage world and show just how much work goes into putting on a performance. We discover a variety of backstage roles and hear an exclusive interview with members of Storyhouse’s key backstage team. Featuring Helen Redcliffe (Storyhouse Associate Producer), Alec (Storyhouse Technical Team), Chelsie (Storyhouse Finance Assistant).
Episode #3: Onstage in the Spotlight – listen now!
In support of all the creatives whose hard work is in need of appreciation right now, we delve into the onstage world of theatre and take a look at some of the glamorous jobs and roles that go into putting on a show, talking to some of Storyhouse’s team to give you a first–hand perspective of what life really is like in the spotlight. Featuring Josh and Esther (Storyhouse Young Comapany, stars of 2020s Blue Stockings) and Tessa Walker (Theatre Director).
Episode #4: Theatre at a Distance – listen now!

Listen as we discuss how to find motivation, start new projects and the importance of keep your identity. Join us as we talk to some inspiring members of the Storyhouse family. Featuring Rhianne, Jacob and Kim (Young Storyhouse) and Linda (Library Team Leader).
