Drawing on themes of cultural hybridity present in their upcycled wax print cloth, Black Girl Knit Club invite you to be part of their workshop to create a collaborative knit piece. The session offers an opportunity to learn about textile design from a West African Culture, hone a new skill through basic knitting and understand the importance of sharing oral histories and your personal narrative through cloth.
If participants coming to the workshop could bring along an item of cloth or textile that they don’t mind using as part of the textile piece – for example an old t-shirt, dress or scarf. This could be an item that evokes a particular memory of a place or person.
Please note: That you will be re-using the material you bring on the day, so please bring something that you don’t mind cutting up.
