Libraries Week takes place between the 8–13 October to celebrate the nation’s much-loved libraries. This year, with a focus on well-being, libraries across the country will showcase how they bring communities together, combat loneliness, provide a space for reading and creativity  and support people with their mental health.

Here is how we will be celebrating at Storyhouse…

Ex Libris (12A)
Sunday 7 October 1pm   |   Cinema   |   £8.50 / £6

An epic documentary study of the New York Public Library. With 92 locations throughout Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, the library is committed to being a resource for all the inhabitants of this multifaceted and cosmopolitan city, and beyond. This film by Frederick Wiseman shows how the public library is still a laboratory of democracy. It is a subject close to our heart at Storyhouse!

Book folding craft session
Tuesday 9 October 2pm   |   Garret Bar   |   Free

Help us give new life to some of our damaged and withdrawn books and recycle them into a beautiful craft project.

Shared reading group taster
Thursday 11 October, 11am   |   Garret Bar   |   Free

What is a shared reading group? Come to our taster session and get a feel for what our weekly group is like.

Everybody is welcome, whether you’ve always been a reader or never picked up a book before. There is no pressure to talk or read, just come along and enjoy listening  to a story or poem. We stop at regular intervals and talk about what the words mean to us. No preparation is needed and we’ll provide the books!

It’s a great place to meet people, relax and share books.

Blind date with a book
All week   |   Library   |   Free

Don’t know what to read next? Try our blind date with a book! Pick one of our wrapped “mystery books” off the shelf to borrow, unwrap it when you get home, and discover something new!

Library Book Doctor
All week   |   Library   |   Free

Do you have a reading ailment you would like us to solve? Need a prescription for a new author, or feeling a bit down and need a mood boosting book?

Send us your literary problems at bookdoctor@storyhouse.com for personalised book recommendations
