Imagine walking into a shop and not being understood – that is what many Makaton users experience every day.

Did you know that over 100,000 people in the UK depend upon Makaton in order to communicate?

Makaton is an effective language programme that uses signs and/or symbols alongside the spoken word and gives everyone a helping hand to communicate. Makaton supports children and adults with communication needs including those associated with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, developmental language disorders (DLD), acquired aphasia (stroke), dementia and English as an additional language – in other words, lots of people who regularly use everyday services.

This launch event is open to everyone who wants to make their organisation a more inclusive and Makaton friendly environment. You will join representatives from diverse organisations.

At the event, you will find out more about Makaton and why it is relevant to your business, learn some Makaton, sign up for free training (October 2019) and make your pledge to become a Makaton Friendly Organisation.

Is this relevant to me?

If your organisation involves communicating with members of the public – be it a pub, cafe, school, charity, church or any public service – then this is for you!

You are invited to stay after the event to network with other Chester businesses and organisations.

Please note: this event is now taking place in the Garret Theatre (not the main theatre as previously advertised).
Seating will be unreserved – please contact us (info@storyhouse.com / 01244 409 113) if you have any access requirements.
