Matt worked as a primary teacher in Manchester and is now the creative producer of North West Drama. He also works with theatre companies including Peoplescape Theatre, creating accessible, participatory theatre for schools and is a core member of acclaimed street theatre company, Plunge Boom.
North West Drama will be leading a practical workshop based on their ‘Children’s Shakespeare Festival’ model, exploring ways of approaching Shakespeare in the primary school classroom. Using practical drama exercises which will demonstrate ways of engaging children with Shakespeare, playfully and meaningfully. Nowadays, Shakespeare’s relevance is questioned, and schools are increasingly under pressure to prioritise knowledge over creativity, this workshop aims to demonstrate the value of connecting to his work and how it can help to build a strong community of care.
