Welcome back to Storyhouse. We put customer safety at the top of everything we do, however at this time that means a little more than making sure you don’t get struck inadvertently by an actor! It now also means keeping 2 metres apart and wearing a face covering whilst in the building, except when eating or drinking. We will be asking all our customer to both enjoy themselves and to stick to some easy to follow guidelines. Find out how we’re keeping you safe here.

Directed by: Channing Godfrey Peoples
Starring: Nicole Beharie, Kendrick Sampson, Alexis Chikaeze

Turquoise Jones is a single mum with a rebellious teenager on her hands. She is also a former beauty queen – having once been crowned Miss Juneteenth – at the annual Texan pageant commemorating the day slavery was abolished in the state. Life didn’t quite turn out the way Turquoise imagined but she is determined her daughter Kai will do better – her hope is that Kai will too win the Juneteenth crown – and the coveted scholarship to a college of her choosing – but Kai may just want something else. A powerful mother and daughter coming of age tale and an impressive debut feature from director Channing Godfrey Peoples.
