Claude Debussy: Prelude a l’apres midi d’une Faune

Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto in E Minor
Edward Elgar: Enigma Variations

Storyhouse favourite Abel Selaocoe (Kabantu) returns as a soloist for this concert.

Poetry is truly in the air for our Prom in The Kitchen!

We open our evening with Debussy’s poem for orchestra, credited in later years as the birth of atonality, before moving on to Elgar’s melancholic Cello Concerto, full of passion and English nostalgia. Finally, the Enigma Variations is Elgar’s musical portrait gallery of his “friends pictured within”. Each variation forms an affectionate sketch of one of his loved ones, including ‘Nimrod’ which has become iconic of Britain itself.

The ticket includes a drink and Levantine nibbles* from The Kitchen, served from 7.00pm – 7.50pm.

*more than a bite, less than your tea!
