The retirement of British-born Joan Stanley becomes less than tranquil at the turn of the millennium when her life as a Soviet spy is exposed. Following her formative years as a teenager in the mid-1930s, Joan finds herself passing secrets to the Russians as the East and West race for nuclear domination.

Inspired by the life of British civil servant Melita Norwood. Starring Judi Dench and Sophie Cookson playing the older and younger Joan.
