Welcome back to Storyhouse. We put customer safety at the top of everything we do, however at this time that means a little more than making sure you don’t get struck inadvertently by an actor! It now also means keeping 2 metres apart and wearing a face covering whilst in the building, except when eating or drinking. We will be asking all our customer to both enjoy themselves and to stick to some easy to follow guidelines. Find out how we’re keeping you safe here.
Directed by: Josephine Decker
Starring: Lily Elisabeth Moss, Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young, Logan Lerman
Elisabeth Moss gives a tour-de-force performance as Shirley Jackson, one of the greatest horror writers of the 20th Century, in this unconventional biopic from the brilliant mind of director Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline), a powerful new voice in independent filmmaking.
Set in the early 1950s, the film charts an imagined chapter in the life of Jackson, who has recently become a literary sensation. When her philandering professor husband invites a newlywed couple – Fred and Rose – into their home, the reclusive writer is forced to change her routine. This change acts as a catalyst, sparking inspiration as she becomes enamoured with Rose, her unsuspecting new muse, Shirley’s obsession plunges her into a quasi-delirium, awakening a repressed femininity that could inspire her next masterpiece.
