David Young is the author of the highly successful Karin Müller series of crime thrillers set in East Germany in the mid-1970s. Stasi Child, David’s critically-acclaimed debut, was a top twenty paperback bestseller and won the CWA Endeavour Historical Dagger for best historical crime novel of 2016. Both it and the second in the series, Stasi Wolf, were longlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year in 2016 and 2017 respectively. A Darker State followed in February 2018 and the fourth in the series, Stasi 77, is due early next year. The novels are published in eleven territories around the world.
In this session, David talks in conversation with Dr Richard Millington of the University of Chester about his novels, crime in East Germany and the fascinating research and real-life stories behind the Stasi Child series – including world exclusive photos of a daring daylight escape over the Berlin Wall.
