Directed by Charlie Chaplin
Starring: Charlie Chaplin, Jackie Coogan, Edna Purviance

Released in 1921, and so, now in its centenary year, The Kid is Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece that will have you laughing and crying in equal measure. It was Chaplin’s first full-length feature that he wrote, produced, directed, acted in and then wrote the music for. In his familiar tramp persona, he takes responsibility for raising a foundling when his hilarious attempts to fob the baby off onto other foster-parents fail. Through hard times, it is the pair of them against the world, taking on multiple authority figures.

This screening will have a live introduction by Storyhouse Young Programmer Charlie Nelson, and Chaplin’s own pre-recorded score.
