After a happy care-free childhood living in rural Lincolnshire, Femi – a British boy of Nigerian heritage, is stripped away from his foster family to go live with his birth mother in her small inner-London flat. With little emotional bond to his mother and no remembrance of his heritage, a struggle sparks between Femi and the culture and values of his new environment.
Fast-forward to his high-school years and a teenage Femi is faced by a challenging path to adulthood as he learns what it means to be a young black man in London whilst coming to terms with his lack of a familiar bond.
The Last Tree, the second feature film from Shola Amoo, is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama that explores universal themes of identity and belonging.
