Part of: Film Feels Curious: My Forgotten Favourites

Directed by Beeban Kidron
Starring Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, John Leguizamo, Blythe Danner, Stockard Channing, Chris Penn, RuPaul

Originating as a response to anti-LGBT American conservatives who asked the question “Do you want drag queens in your community?”, To Wong Foo… is a warm-hearted film about a trio of New York City drag queens whose car breaks down in an unsuspecting small town. With the queens played by big name actors most well-known for heterosexual leading roles (Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo) the film brought a celebratory LGBT story to mainstream audiences, with fantastic vibrant costumes contrasting with the drab environment, bringing colour and fun to the lives of the community as well as those watching. The film has remained a cultural touchstone to many audiences including stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, with RuPaul himself once again playing a cameo role.

This screening is part of Film Feels Curious, a UK-wide cinema season, supported by the National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network. Explore all films and events at filmfeels.co.uk.
