Part of: Lunchtime Lectures
Part of: Lunchtime Lectures
Presented by Sohail Mushtaq, who specialises in clinical sciences and nutrition.
Sohail will discuss the importance of the sunshine vitamin and the physiological role it plays not only in maintaining bone health but other but other non-skeletal functions. He will also discuss dietary sources of vitamin D and the current guidance in relation to supplementation. Sohail will then report the results of a published clinical trial carried out by his research group that demonstrated that dietary supplementation was effective in improving iron status in women with low iron stores. This is significant, as improving people’s vitamin D status could potentially be used as an additional therapy for iron-deficient or anaemic people who need to improve their iron levels.
Lunchtime Lectures is a collaboration between Storyhouse and the University of Chester, providing an open platform for debate on a range of topics and fascinating subjects.
They take place on the third Tuesday of each month.
