Join award-winning author and Booker-prize shortlisted editor Nicholas Royle in this workshop looking at short story openings and techniques for getting started. He’ll take you through some common mistakes people make so you can avoid them in your work. And if you’re stuck, Nicholas will try and help solve your creative problem and unlock your story. Spaces are limited for the workshop, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Nicholas Royle is the author of seven novels, two novellas and four collections of short fiction. He has edited more than twenty anthologies of short stories, including ten volumes of Best British Short Stories. Reader in Creative Writing at the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University and head judge of the Manchester Fiction Prize, he also runs Nightjar Press, publishing original short stories as signed, limited-edition chapbooks. His most recent books are his latest short story collection, London Gothic (Confingo Publishing), and his first work of non-fiction, White Spines: Confessions of a Book Collector (Salt Publishing).

This workshop is part of Refresh, a season of cultural activity in and around Chester.
