In January, Storyhouse is set to be filled with music as some of Chester and the North West’s most exciting talent takes over the building for one unmissable weekend of brilliant sounds.

Storyhouse Sessions, taking place from 21-23 January, is being staged in partnership with Chester-based leading independent label Mai 68 Records.

More than 30 bands, singers and musicians will perform live at locations throughout the building including the main theatre space, Garret Studio, Garret Bar and The Kitchen

Saturday night headliners, Sunstack Jones took some time to tell us about themselves:

Who are you?

We are Sunstack Jones, kinda like the Riders of Rohan but with guitars.

Where are you from?

Merseyshire, North West.

What was the first album/single that you owned?

Collectively we all went out to purchase a band room copy of Bamboleo by the Gypsy Kings.

Who are your favourite solo artists/bands?

Beachwood Sparks, The Velvet Underground, Finn Regan, The Doors, The Sunday’s, Mazzy Star, Nirvana, The Beatles… yada yada.

Why/How did you get into writing music?

If you listen to and love music it seems like the natural thing to do. Like the old saying goes: if you love shoes, make brogues.

Where was your first live performance?

The Zanzibar, Liverpool.

Who are some of the bands/artists that you have seen live? Who was the best?

Jukes reckons the Stones we’re best. Chrisy reckons Weird War.

Which albums do you consider overrated, and which do you consider is underrated?

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Who are your musical influences?

Everything you hear kinda becomes an influence- be it something you love or something that you know you want to avoid. Maaaan.

What is your favourite venue to see live music?

Telfords Warehouse, Chester.

What is your favourite venue to play live?

Thekla,Bristol or Electric Ballroom, Camden.

Other than yourself, who is the one to watch on Mai68 records?

Watch them all. Listen to them all. Buy them all.

(For bands) How did you form? Where did you meet?

We formed in Liverpool via a combination of family, housemate and alcohol establishments.

What lead to you signing for Mai68?

Seymour Stein’s missed his plane and Si was walking through departures on the way to Ibiza. Fate that
