Part of: Christmas at Storyhouse, Stage On Screen

To ring out the old year, the Berliner Philharmoniker and chief conductor Kirill Petrenko present a thrilling Russian-Italian programme with tenor Jonas Kaufmann as special guest. A resonant lower range, radiant high notes, intelligent interpretation – all of which makes him one of the world’s leading singers. The other works on the programme include famous Italian opera overtures, Peter Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous Capriccio italien and the most popular numbers from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Romeo and Juliet.

Programme:

Giuseppe Verdi La forza del destino: Overture
Giuseppe Verdi La forza del destino: ‟La vita è inferno all’infelice … Oh, tu che in seno agli angeli”
Riccardo Zandonai Giulietta e Romeo: ‟Giulietta! Son io!”
Sergei Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet (excerpts)
Umberto Giordano Andrea Chénier: ‟Un di all’azzurro”
Pietro Mascagni Cavalleria rusticana: Intermezzo
Pietro Mascagni Cavalleria rusticana: ‟Mamma, quel vino è generoso”
Nino Rota La strada, Orchestral Suite: 1. Nozze in campagna – ‟È arrivato Zampanò”
Nino Rota La strada, Orchestral Suite: 2. I tre suonatori e il Matto sul filo
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Capriccio italien, op. 45
