Chef de Partie

As Chef de Partie at Storyhouse, you will prepare and cook food under the guidance of our Head Chef in Storyhouse’s in-house restaurant, The Kitchen, and also be involved with our wider food and beverage offerings.

We are looking for an experienced chef who is ambitious and willing to work in the arts sector. This person must have a genuine interest in food, working with fresh ingredients, and helping driving our business forward with new ideas.

Please note we will review applications and interview suitable candidates as they are received. This role will close early if a candidate is successful before the advertised closing date.

Kitchen Porter

Storyhouse’s Kitchen Porters work as part of our Kitchen team to help provide delicious food to customers and maintain high standards of food hygiene.

Shifts will include a mixture of days, evenings and weekends, so you will need a flexible approach to work. Experience is desired, but not essential, as full training will be given. You will, however, need the ability to cope in a fast-paced environment and have a genuine interest in helping maintain high standards of food hygiene.

Assistant Facilitator (The Agency)

As Assistant Facilitator, you will work with a group of young people to realise their successfully pitched projects from September 2024-May 2025. You will help to identify networks for them to connect with and set up meetings where appropriate.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about delivering a variety of exciting Arts and cultural activities for young people, with an understanding and vision of how Arts activities can provide positive benefits for young people with different needs and abilities.

Applicants should be available for both rounds of interviews. First round will be held Wednesday 10th July, second round on Monday 15th July. If you would like to be considered for both this role and Lead Artist Facilitator (The Agency), please make this clear in your cover letter and application.

Lead Artist Facilitator (The Agency)

As the Lead Artist Facilitator, you will work with a group of young people to realise their successfully pitched projects from September 2024 – May 2025. You will help to identify networks for The Agents to connect with and set up meetings where appropriate. You will plan, deliver, and evaluate 12 weekly Agency sessions with up to 20 people aged 15-25 in-line with The Agency methodology.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about delivering a variety of exciting Arts and cultural activities for young people, with an understanding and vision of how Arts activities can provide positive benefits for young people with different needs and abilities.

Technician

You will provide technical support and crewing during get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs, as required by the Technical Stage Manager and other Senior Storyhouse technical staff. You will operate and program lighting on ETC EOS range of consoles, operate a Yamaha digital sound desk and act as a sound and lighting assistant as required. You will have a positive and constructive attitude as well as good interpersonal and strong team working skills.

This is a perfect opportunity for an enthusiastic and energetic individual with experience in a similar environment, to take on a full time, permanent contract.

Cinema Assistant

The Cinema Team at Storyhouse is responsible for the smooth running of the cinema’s operations across our indoor and outdoor venues. We work as a team to deliver excellent customer service, assist with ticketing enquiries, sell refreshments, and ensure the efficient functioning of the cinema digital system and kiosks.

The Cinema Assistant will assist with the running of the cinema and manage daily cinema screenings, ensuring the smooth daily operation of the cinema, often by themselves.

The role will suit someone with experience in a similar environment and with some knowledge of digital projection.

Work Experience Week at Storyhouse

Storyhouse Work Experience Week: 1-5 July 2024 (full days)

Our Work Experience Week has been designed in response to the high number of enquiries we receive from school and college students for work experience opportunities. These opportunities are available to 14 – 19 year olds only (Year 10 – Year 13).

Work Experience Week gives young people the opportunity to experience what it’s like working in a busy cultural organisation. During Work Experience Week, young people will take part in workshops and talks with Storyhouse staff to discover the different departments and elements that make up the world of Storyhouse. If you’re thinking about a career in the arts then this is a great opportunity for you!

  • Receive a backstage tour of the building
  • Be given the chance to meet staff from different departments such as producing, technical, library, cinema, marketing, fundraising, engagement, hospitality and front of house
  • Take part in challenges set by Storyhouse members of staff throughout the week
  • Put skills into practice by creating their own takeover event at the end of the week
  • Gain tickets to see a Storyhouse Original play over the summer

The week is free to take part in. To apply, you must be free for all of the days and times listed below and be able to come to Storyhouse in Chester every day.

Storyhouse Work Experience: Monday 1 July – Friday 5 July full days.
