Chef de Partie

As Chef de Partie at Storyhouse, you will prepare and cook food under the guidance of our Head Chef in Storyhouse’s in-house restaurant, The Kitchen, and also be involved with our wider food and beverage offerings.

We are looking for an experienced chef who is ambitious and willing to work in the arts sector. This person must have a genuine interest in food, working with fresh ingredients, and helping driving our business forward with new ideas.

As a Storyhouse Housekeeper, you will be responsible for supporting the Head Housekeeper and Facilities Manager in maintaining the overall presentation and functionality of the building. You will ensure a clean, orderly and accessible environment for all visitors to Storyhouse, that will become a critical factor in maintaining and strengthening our reputation.

This role will suit an individual with previous experience in a cleaning team, and who also possesses integrity and a high level of attention to detail. Applicants must be prepared for 6am starts and late finishes as part of the role.

Children & Young People Programme Manager

This is an exciting new role that manages, designs and develops Storyhouse’s creative programmes and projects for young people aged 5-25. We are seeking to appoint a proactive and experienced manager with a proven record of developing and managing high quality programmes that inspire and engage children and young people with experience of managing staff and freelance artists to deliver this.

Kitchen Porter

Storyhouse’s Kitchen Porters work as part of our Kitchen team to help provide delicious food to customers and maintain high standards of food hygiene.

Shifts will include a mixture of days, evenings and weekends, so you will need a flexible approach to work. Experience is desired, but not essential, as full training will be given. You will, however, need the ability to cope in a fast-paced environment and have a genuine interest in helping maintain high standards of food hygiene.

Summer Security Steward

As Security Steward at Storyhouse, you will provide all visitors with a warm welcome, creating a professional first impression of Storyhouse, Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, and Moonlight Flicks. You will ensure the safety of our customers and establish a security presence at our events during peak hours across all our venues. You will be a proactive individual, highly proficient at interacting with customers and assisting with enquiries.

Summer Kitchen Assistant

As Kitchen Assistant, you will be working at our outdoor food venues, including Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre and Moonlight Flicks. At these venues, we will be serving fresh pizza in our wood-fired pizza ovens, kebabs over an open fire, and fresh desserts. You will be responsible for ensuring all food on-site is cooked to the highest standards consistently every day.

Cinema Assistant

The Cinema Team at Storyhouse is responsible for the smooth running of the cinema’s operations across our indoor and outdoor venues. We work as a team to deliver excellent customer service, assist with ticketing enquiries, sell refreshments, and ensure the efficient functioning of the cinema digital system and kiosks.

The Cinema Assistant will assist with the running of the cinema and manage daily cinema screenings, ensuring the smooth daily operation of the cinema, often by themselves.

The role will suit someone with experience in a similar environment and with some knowledge of digital projection.

We are looking to meet local practitioners who work with children, young people or communities in a range of creative art forms who are interested in getting to know Storyhouse and the work that we do or who want to share with us that working in this sector.

Work Experience Week at Storyhouse


Storyhouse Work Experience Week: 1-5 July 2024 (full days)

Our Work Experience Week has been designed in response to the high number of enquiries we receive from school and college students for work experience opportunities. These opportunities are available to 14 – 19 year olds only (Year 10 – Year 13).

Work Experience Week gives young people the opportunity to experience what it’s like working in a busy cultural organisation. During Work Experience Week, young people will take part in workshops and talks with Storyhouse staff to discover the different departments and elements that make up the world of Storyhouse. If you’re thinking about a career in the arts then this is a great opportunity for you!

  • Receive a backstage tour of the building
  • Be given the chance to meet staff from different departments such as producing, technical, library, cinema, marketing, fundraising, engagement, hospitality and front of house
  • Take part in challenges set by Storyhouse members of staff throughout the week
  • Put skills into practice by creating their own takeover event at the end of the week
  • Gain tickets to see a Storyhouse Original play over the summer

The week is free to take part in. To apply, you must be free for all of the days and times listed below and be able to come to Storyhouse in Chester every day.

Storyhouse Work Experience: Monday 1 July – Friday 5 July full days.
