Work Experience 2019

Our work experience programme has been designed in response to the high number of enquiries we receive from school and college students for work experience opportunities. These opportunities are available to 15 – 19-year olds only.

We are delighted to be able to offer 4 students a work experience placement this year in two very different areas of our organisation.

To apply for these places please ensure you are available during the dates and times specified. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer work experience placements outside of these dates. Complete the application document below before the closing date and we will be in touch with successful students to book an interview.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT x 2

Dates: Monday 1st July – Sunday 14th July 2019

Times of work:

Monday 1 July 12.15pm – 8.15pm
Tuesday 2 July 12.15pm – 8.15pm
Wednesday 3 July 10.30am – 6.30pm
Thursday 4 July PERFORMANCE 11.30am – 7pm
Friday 5th July PERFORMANCE 12.15pm – 8.15pm

Tuesday 9 July – 12.15pm – 6.15pm
Wednesday 10th – 10.30am – 6.30pm

Outline

Students will be appointed to work on our Young Company and Youth Theatre Performances as Production Assistants for 2 weeks. They will be managed and mentored by Hayley Lindley-Thornhill, Youth Projects Manager & Alix Rawlinson, Youth Projects Coordinator and work alongside members of the technical department across the weeks. During this they will gain insight into staging a production at Storyhouse and gain production, technical and stage management experience. Students must have an interest in this area of work, be able to multi task and be willing to work the evenings and weekends required in this line of work.

Role Description –

• Assist the Youth projects team in running Youth Theatre and Young Company rehearsals

• Assist the technical and stage management teams with technical runs and rehearsals across the 2 weeks.

• Assist the Directors of each production, undertaking production assistant tasks.

• Create the programmes for all Youth Theatre productions.

During the week students will also:

• Undertake a workplace induction

• Complete their Bronze Arts Award

• Attend a CV writing and interview skills workshop with the HR Manager and Library Team Leader

LIBRARY ASSISTANT x 2

Dates: Monday 1st July – Friday 12th July 2019

Times of Work: Monday – Friday 9.30am – 5pm

Outline:

Students will work as part of our library team for two weeks. They will be managed and mentored by our Library Team Leader, Linda Tyson and other relevant members of the team. During the placement the student will gain valuable insight into the library operation and will interact with our service users. The student must have a keen interest in books and be confident dealing with people.

Role Description –

 Returning borrowed books to the shelves.

 Creating displays and keeping the stock tidy and in order.

 Dealing with customer enquiries.

 Helping with events, workshops and craft activities.

 Dealing with IT enquiries.

During the week students will also:

 Undertake a workplace induction

 Complete their Bronze Arts Award

 Attend a CV writing and interview skills workshop with the HR Manager and Library Team Leader
