Reflecting on Blacon Music Project 2

Teenagers from Blacon record an original song!

Back in August, Storyhouse partnered with Boaty Theatre to deliver Blacon Music Project 2!

Following the success of last year’s programme, Storyhouse gained further funding to deliver this exciting holiday activity for young people in Blacon.

The project was based at Blacon High School and ran for 5 days over summer. In those 5 days, 14 young people, aged 11-16, wrote and recorded their own original song with support from professionals at Boaty Theatre Company.

Boaty Theatre Company is newly based at New Place in Chester, located on the rows on Water Gate Street. They offer regular theatre sessions for young people, music sessions for adults and much more! Their facilities include a bespoke recording and podcast studio that the young people from Blacon Music Project were beyond excited to make use of to record their original songs!

Boaty Theatre Company designed an engaging curriculum, allowing the young people time to get to know each other, make new friends and build their confidence as well as develop their music skills and work towards a showcase for their friends and family!

We also partnered with Make Mouth Music for an interactive beatboxing and rap masterclass which got us practising interesting rhymes and rhythms!

As many of our holiday activities do, we also enjoyed a free trip to watch show at Storyhouse. This time, we experienced ‘Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story’ at Storyhouse in the park, a one of a kind, outdoor theatre experience complete with a picnic of stone baked pizzas!

This opportunity was completely free for young people from Blacon, this also included a free lunch every day!
