Storyhouse Celebrates Incredible Women

The lives and careers of leading women are being highlighted and celebrated in a new project at Storyhouse.

Incredible Women aims to share the experiences and wisdom of women in key positions and roles which have been traditionally dominated by men.

Former Storyhouse Young Leader Jolyne Thomas has driven the initiative which has drawn together exclusive video interviews with women from the worlds of business, politics, education, entertainment, aviation, the Army and the emergency services.

Now these insightful conversations are set to be screened in Storyhouse’s Garret Theatre

Among those Jolyne has interviewed is Birmingham Yardley Labour MP Jess Phillips who spoke candidly about juggling politics and family life, and how women MPs from all parties were supportive of each other.

She also approached and spoke to former Red Arrows’ pilot and Blades Aerobatic Display Team member Kirsty Murphy, British Army Major Danielle Smith, and Cheshire women firefighters.

Jolyne Thomas said:

I’m hoping to aim it towards young people, particularly young women, who are doing their GCSEs or nearing the end of school and thinking what they want to do.

I really want them to feel impassioned and emboldened and to see that there are so many careers in the world, and you can do anything. There isn’t a single thing that women can’t do.

I want to tell them – these are women I found doing this job, you can do it too. You can go further, you can do something different. You can do it.

Suzie Henderson, Storyhouse’s new Creative Director, added:

Since I arrived at Storyhouse I’ve been so impressed with all the brilliant work being done here, particularly in supporting and giving a voice to communities which may have traditionally struggled to be heard.

Incredible Women is a great addition to this work, and Jolyne should be very proud of the amazing job she has done in bringing together so many powerful and important womens voices to inspire the next generation of fabulous and successful women here in Chester and beyond.
