Throughout November and December, Storyhouse is set to host Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell and Pressburger, a prominent film celebration spanning the UK, presented by the British Film Institute. The season pays homage to the enduring cinematic partnership of Michael Powell (1905-1990) and Emeric Pressburger (1902-1988), renowned for their iconic films, including “The Red Shoes” (1948), “A Matter of Life and Death” (1946), and “Black Narcissus” (1947).
As a part of this nationwide celebration, Storyhouse, in collaboration with New Media Scotland, has crafted a unique immersive cinema experience centred around the acclaimed classic, “Black Narcissus.” This presentation promises to engage the audience’s senses fully, incorporating aromas, innovative lighting, and wind effects to create a captivating 4D cinematic journey. The film derives its name from the fragrance ‘Narcisse Noir,’ which originated from the esteemed perfume house of Caron in Paris back in 1911. Beloved by luminaries such as Gloria Swanson, Serge Diaghilev, and Dita Von Teese, this fragrance will play a significant role in this special presentation.
Supported by the British Film Institute with funding from the National Lottery, this extraordinary event is set to tour Brighton, Glasgow, and comes to Chester on the 19 November.

The Cinema Unbound Season at Storyhouse will showcase newly restored versions of pivotal Powell & Pressburger titles, including “I Know Where I’m Going“, “The Red Shoes“, and “Peeping Tom“.
