Bring Cinema to your Home – July update

We are delighted to be back up and running the cinema (now with two screens!) at Storyhouse (find out more here), but we understand that some film fans may still need to stay at home for a little while.

With that in mind we are continuing our partnership with the online film streaming service Mubisign up here before the end of July for three months of free cinema to watch at home. We also have new partnerships with some other film distributors to provide you access to new and award-winning films.

What’s on?

Pain & Glory (available on Mubi)

Currently streaming on the Mubi platform, this is perfect summer viewing. Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar’s 21st feature film is a Fellini-esque and intensely personal feature. Antonio Banderas stars as Salvador Mallo a film director reflecting on the decisions he has made in life. Moving back and forward in time Penelope Cruz plays Mallo’s mother in her younger days. A warm and rich film executed with visionary flair.

A White White Day (available on Peccadillo)

We’ve set up a partnership with independent film distributor Peccadillo for a Virtual Screening of their latest film A White White Day. Buy a ticket to watch online and Storyhouse will get a percentage of the ticket sale – just like we do when you buy a ticket at our cinema!

In a remote Icelandic town, Ingimundur, an off-duty police chief begins to suspect a local man of having had an affair with his late wife. Gradually his obsession for uncovering the truth endangers himself and those he loves.

Winner of the Cannes Critics Week Rising Star Award and Nominated for 12 EDDA Awards (these are the Icelandic Oscars) A White, White Day is a remarkable, elegant, yet eerily gripping tale of love and loss.

Family Romance, LLC (available on Modern Films)

We also have a new partnership with Modern Films for Virtual Screenings. Again, Storyhouse will benefit from ticket sales on the Modern Films platform – all you need to do is select Storyhouse as your nominated cinema.

Oscar-nominated auteur Werner Herzog brings to the screen a unique angle to recurring themes around people chasing impossible dreams in Family Romance, LLC. Romance is a business in a world where family, friends, followers are all available for hire.

“Werner Herzog takes a sideways look at modern romance through the lens of Japan’s performance industry” – Little White Lies

“Excellent fictional feature that veers close to documentary” – The Guardian
