Young Storyhouse is a collective of groups for young people (14-25) at Storyhouse, supporting them to connect, create, gain skills and build confidence.
Here are the current opportunities for young people to get involved:
YS Marketers
Spaces open for October 2021
Are you creative and interested in advertising and social media? YS Marketers is a free programme at Storyhouse for 16-25 year olds to give insight into using social media, advertising, design, photography at Storyhouse. YS Marketers go behind-the-scenes at Storyhouse to find out how marketing works in the arts. You don’t need to have lots of knowledge or any experience of marketing – just a keen interest in finding out more! The sessions run on a weekly basis at Storyhouse.

YS Leaders
Spaces open for autumn 2021
Are you a young person looking for a supportive safe space to get skills and make new friends? Young Leaders is a weekly group for young people aged 14-25 (in two age groups) who may need extra support to gain skills, connect with others, develop work skills and gain knowledge of the creative industry.
YS Leaders will:
• receive mentoring
•get training and practical opportunities
• explore the different roles and teams at Storyhouse
• get help to find a passion
• work on a group challenge
• develop skills
• build confidence

There is also a 9-month YS Leaders programme, for young people who would benefit from a longer-term intervention and who are usually referred to us.

YS Programmers
Spaces open now!
Are you full of ideas and interested in creating new events and festivals? Storyhouse’s programming team create and choose the theatre, music, dance and film events that happen at Storyhouse. YS Programmers work with them to get real life experience creating their own events, showcasing young talent and bringing young audiences to Storyhouse.
YS Programmers have:
• Chosen and hosted special film festivals and screenings at Storyhouse
• Organised open mic nights in Storyhouse Garret Theatre
• Created and managed a festival weekend celebrating young talent
• Hosted live music events at Moonlight Flicks
• Founded and hosted an online festival celebrating young creators

YS Company

Are you looking to get involved in the world of theatre? Would you like to tell, make, and share stories on stage? Interested in acting, directing, lighting, sound, or another aspect of theatre? YS Company is for you! Get real-life theatre experience and create and perform in your very own productions. YS Company requires no existing experience, all you need is passion, enthusiasm and energy. There are two Young Company groups, Young Company for 14-16 year olds, and Young Company for 17-25 year olds.

YS Readers
Spaces open now!
Do you love to read and chat about books? YS Readers is a book club with a twist for young adults. They chat about all things book-related and work with the Storyhouse Library team to choose books for the Young Adult section of the Library. There’s no set reading or assignments, just come along and share your thoughts – everyone is welcome. The group currently meets in person (outside!) and sometimes on Zoom.

Kickstart Scheme

Are you in receipt of Universal Credit and aged 16-24? The Kickstart Scheme is a chance to get a 6-month paid job with a local employer, providing an opportunity for people aged 16-24 to gain experience of working in exciting companies. We have a number of Kickstart roles available at Storyhouse for young people looking to gain experience in the arts and culture industry.

BFI Film Academy
BFI Film Academy: opportunities for young creatives this October half term.
If you’re 16 to 19 and want to learn about or work in film, BFI Film Academy is for you!
BFI Film Academy is a short film course aimed at those either wanting to take the first step in filmmaking or improve on existing skills.
These courses help train and inspire the next generation of UK filmmakers. No previous filmmaking experience is necessary.
