Storyhouse announces major new production of The Snow Queen for Christmas

Hans Christian Anderson’s magical fairy tale The Snow Queen will be shedding seasonal snow crystal over Chester this Christmas.

The Storyhouse Original production of Charles Way’s celebrated adaptation hits the stage from 9 December to 15 January.

The eternally beautiful story of childhood friends, Gerda and Kai, torn apart by dark temptation and reunited by the force of Gerda’s love is of course one of Hans Christian Anderson’s most popular stories and well-known by lovers of Frozen.

There are significant concessions to cost of living pressures too according to Storyhouse’s CEO Andrew Bentley, “We’ve made it our most affordable Christmas show through these tricky times. All seats are £18 for Storyhouse Card holders for many performances, and we’ve increased member discounts to up to 20%, for this Christmas only. What’s more, we are introducing Buy Now Pay Later which means customers can reserve the lowest price tickets today and pay by 31 October.”

The Storyhouse Originals production will be directed by Hannah Noone (Home, I’m Darling for the National Theatre, The Elixir of Love at The King’s Head) and will feature a live band on stage, spectacular fight scenes, magical sequences and that essential snowy white Christmas. The designer is Jacob Hughes (finalist in the Linbury Prize for Stage Design. Nominated for best set designer in the Off West End awards and Wales Theatre awards).

Storyhouse Originals producer Helen Redcliffe: “It may be the middle of summer but it’s never too early to look forward to Christmas – especially when it’s to announce such a truly special and spectacular seasonal show.

“Charles Way’s brilliant adaptation of The Snow Queen is set in an icy winter wonderland but it’s also wonderfully heart-warming and full of imagination and theatrical magic.

“It also features an incredible music score, played by a live band on stage, and lots of breath-taking visual moments which together will make it an unmissable treat for families this festive season.”

Priority Booking for Storyhouse Card members opens on Wednesday 3 August.
General booking opens on Monday 5 September.
