Austen 250
In the 250th anniversary year of Jane Austen’s birth, Storyhouse is celebrating the literary legend’s enduring legacy with a season of films, in partnership with the University of Chester.
The season opens with the twentieth anniversary re-release of Joe Wright’s acclaimed Pride & Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley, followed by Gurinder Chadha’s beloved British-Bollywood musical adaptation Bride & Prejudice.
Autumn de Wilde’s 2020 adaptation of Emma, a sumptuous period drama starring Anya Taylor-Joy, returns to the big screen, alongside Amy Heckerling’s sharp and stylish Clueless (a loose, modern take on Austen’s 1815 novel) which also celebrates its 30th anniversary this year (as if!).
During the season, discover the new release of Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, a contemporary French rom-com and feature debut from writer/director Laura Piani, following a lonely bookseller with great expectations for love.
Join us later this summer as the celebrations continue outdoors with our very own production of Pride & Prejudice at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.
The screenings of Pride & Prejudice (7 June), Emma (22 June), and Clueless (2 July) will be introduced by experts from the University of Chester.
