Rip It Up
19 August – 13 September 2026
A major new cinema season from BFI FAN, curated by Storyhouse Young Film Programmers, exploring the changing face of youth culture on screen through the lens of fashion, rebellion and expression.
BFI FAN’s major new season, Rip It Up, celebrates 75 years of UK youth culture on screen, inviting audiences of all ages to reflect on their own experiences, identities and cultural influences while growing up in a changing world.
Who better to tell the story of youth culture than the young people of today? Curated by a team of Storyhouse Young Programmers aged 16 to 18, this season brings together six impactful and inspiring films that explore the changing face of youth through subcultures that have challenged class expectations, traditional family values and ideas of identity, spanning working-class Britain to life in the digital age.
Approaching youth culture through the lens of fashion, rebellion and self-expression, the season takes audiences on a journey through football pitches, dance studios, boarding schools and vibrant city streets, where characters navigate questions of identity, friendship, family, ambition and belonging.
All cinema tickets are Pay What You Can: £4, £6.50 or £9.90.
