Storyhouse Young Programmers
Young Programmers is a free weekly course for 16-25 year olds at Storyhouse.
Young Programmers is for young people who are interested in gaining practical experience in curation, event management, arts administration and marketing. As a Young Programmer, you will make creative choices about what you want to see on screen and stage through events, activities and opportunities in our cinema and festivals.
We are looking for people from a range of backgrounds with a variety of interests – no previous experience is necessary. Young Programmers runs on Wednesday evenings from 24 January – 3 July 2024.

What will I do?
• Plan and produce a cinema takeover selecting films and organising events
• Create an event at WayWord Festival for Kids
• Produce a live music event at Storyhouse, helping to choose bands and musicians
• Be invited to Storyhouse events and shows
• Look for gaps in Storyhouse’s programme to bring in new audiences
• Work towards an Arts Award (this is optional)

What will I get out of it?
An opportunity to learn in a safe, have fun, make new friends and grow in confidence. You’ll meet industry professionals, get exclusive work experience in the creative arts and work with a team of like-minded people and be invited to Storyhouse events and shows.
Previous Storyhouse Young Programmers have gone onto work for organisations such as Pearl & Dean, The Lowry, Showroom Sheffield and Storyhouse.
Storyhouse Young Programmers is for you if you’re 16-25 and:
• are interested in working in the creative arts industries
• is passionate about film, live events, music or literature
• want to develop a career in curating, event planning, marketing or arts administration
• want to shape what’s happening in your local community
Applications are now open for the Young Programmers 2024 intake.
Storyhouse Young Programmers will be on Wednesdays from 24 January – 3 July 2024, at 5pm-7pm. Sessions will take place at Storyhouse in Chester city centre.

Opening times
We’re open from early until late every day!
Our building is open from 8am to 11pm, Monday to Saturday.
On Sundays and Bank Holidays (excluding Christmas) we’re open from 9.30am to 11pm.
Food is served in The Kitchen from 9am to 9pm daily.
