West Cheshire Women In Leadership Programme

We are delighted to launch the third West Cheshire Women in Leadership programme, in partnership with female leaders at Chester Racecourse, Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Countess of Chester Hospital, and the University of Chester.

The programme grew out of a panel discussion as the 2024 Storyhouse Women festival, entitled The Future of Chester is Female. With so many of Chester’s key organisations now run by women, we asked ourselves ‘how can we use this to benefit other women?’

That question led to the development of this programme, which ran for the first time in 2024/25 supporting a cohort of 18 fantastic women from across West Cheshire.

We are not representative of all women, but we have come together to share our lived experience with others, to support and inspire more women to gain confidence around leadership.

We hope you decide to join us.

Feedback from Participants

“It’s made a huge impact on my confidence as a leader and my vision for my future career. I have made some connections and friends that I am sure I will stay in touch with and continue to learn from.”

“It has been a really inspiring and empowering experience and has given me solid development areas for me to work on – I’ve already started and will continue. It’s also been wonderful meeting and developing a new network with peers which will continue.”

“Ultimately it’s helped build my confidence as I start my leadership journey. It’s been about understanding the rules and how to navigate people, challenges or ambiguity. It’s also been a real boost to know that not only have I got the support of a new network of female leaders but also the exposure and support of top leaders in the North West! It feels incredible to be part of this programme and feel that support behind you.”

“I could rave endlessly about the sheer brilliance of this experience, but I’ll distil my feelings into one powerful sentence: This journey has been nothing short of invaluable, and if you ever get the chance to be a part of it, seize it with every fibre of your being.”

“It was so relaxed, welcoming and non-threatening! Great women giving their time up to speak who were all relevant and engaging. The way it was spread over autumn to spring was so beneficial, it gave time for thoughts and messages to settle, and gave real reflection time, as well as getting to know others each month.”

“This programme has taught me so much about leadership, about strong women, about resilience, about aspirations and so much more. And that I want to put these skills into action, I want to reach for a leadership position.”
