In 1980s Northern England, the life of shy 11-year-old Billy Elliot, the son of a coal miner, is forever changed when he unexpectedly discovers a passion for ballet. Released in 2000, Billy Elliot is a very fun and timeless coming-of-age tale about self-expression, rebellion and the freedom to be yourself, featuring unforgettable dance sequences and a brilliant soundtrack of 1970s glam rock and punk tracks. Billy’s story explores the contrast between boxing and ballet through movement and clothing, challenging expectations and gender roles against the backdrop of 1980s Britain, where questions of identity, class and community feel under threat but pursuing them is more important than ever.
