Event details
Come and meet the local author of Tails from the Bushveld by Richard Phillips with illustrations by Anton Deetlefs. This is a local celebration of the release of this beautiful book
A heart-warming and humorous collection of stories of adventure, mishaps, and fun by a seasoned storyteller from Africa that captures the wild of the continent through personal experiences.
This fully illustrated book channels the indomitable spirit of writer and adventurer Richard Phillips and his beloved wife Ann. Every story oozes the passion and love for the continent and paints a glorious picture of the untamed landscape and its inhabitants. It invites readers to enjoy the raw beauty of Africa and wonder at its contrasting landscapes. It is ideal for those setting out on travels of their own or armchair adventures who simply want to sit back and enjoy a good read.
Africa is a vast, exciting, varied – and at times, dangerous continent. It remains untamed in large parts and one of the few places left on Earth for those with an adventurous spirit. Richard Phillips, together with his wife Ann, spent a lifetime in search of adventure across the continent.
Sadly, Ann passed away as the book was going to print but the stories of their adventures across Africa in this book are testament to the couple’s spirit – and to Ann, whom the author fondly referred to as ‘Ann of Africa’ and his ‘English rose’. Although those weren’t the words he was using when he discovered she was encouraging a porcupine to attack him in their tent on one famous adventure.
