Census

Event details

Award-winning duo Malandra Jacks invite you into a world of vivid projection, lived experience and unapologetic heart. Census is part theatre, part time capsule, part love letter. A defiantly human love letter about who we are, what we carry, and what refuses to be forgotten.

When a working-class community tells its own story, it begins quietly…on the bus, at the bingo hall, in the spaces between us. A place stitched together from small rituals and shared memories; a community built through our humour, our grief, our laughter and our quiet resilience.

Featuring immersive projection and audio testimony, the piece blends theatre and documentary, creating an honest and unflinching portrait of everyday life: the journeys we take, the places we gather, and the stories we inherit. Funny, tender and politically resonant; challenging media stereotypes and reclaiming space for communities too often unheard.

Census was the winner for Best Performance at the Manchester Culture Awards 2024
