Event details

Hugh Hudson’s exhilarating account of the struggle by Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell to compete on their own terms at the 1924 Olympics in a race for Gold.

This free screening is in honour of Derek Smith, one of the founding members of Chester Film Society.

In September last year, Derek Smith passed away. Derek was a driving force in the early days of the Society, which held an incredibly special place in his heart, along with his friend and former President of the Society, George Mayled. From winning Film Society of the Year in the mid-1980s (presented by Sir Richard Attenborough, which was such a highlight), to passing his love of films down to his daughter Caryn, the impact and legacy of the Society runs deep. Derek was made an Honorary Member in recognition of his contribution.
