Chester Humanists present Desert Island Books, a chat show about books that shape lives.
Host, Amanda Brown, is joined by Ian Anstice, library manager, keen advocate of public libraries and chronicler of the UK public libraries scene; Donna Okell, UK for Good and nominee for Change Maker of the Year 2026 and barrister David M Owen. Each guest is invited to speak about two books. Their first book choice is the one that inspired their love of reading. Next, they choose the book they would most like to recommend to others. Questions from the audience and selected extracts add to this exploration of the profound and life-enhancing impact of books.
