Fabulous Futures

Join performer and academic Indigo Spice for an interactive workshop to consider what it means to have sustainably fabulous futures!

Participants will spend the session dreaming up an outfit that exemplifies their own idea of joyous expression, using writing and/or drawing to share their vision. (Supplies will be provided.)

Interspersed throughout the creative process, Indigo will share the histories of how Bangladeshi textile and clothing industries have changed over time, showcasing the evolution of processes, textiles, techniques, and workers’ rights – especially how they have responded to the challenges of colonialism, classism, and global capitalism. By exploring this knowledge while working on their own pieces, participants will be able to understand how sustainability can be reclaimed in the path towards a more equitable and fashionable future.

Indigo Spice is a queer migrant from Bangladesh and a member of the House of Spice collective. His practice includes costuming that showcases the long heritage of Bangladeshi craftsmanship, both as a mark of pride in his background and as a way to challenge the stereotype of Bangladesh as a hub of fast fashion. His academic and performance work are dedicated to the idea of using beauty and joy to share the experiences of marginalised communities
