Event details

Perspectives: a triple bill of high-quality dance work from artists with disabilities.

Control over the Mask by Jack Evans Dance

Choreographed by Jack Evans, Control over the Mask is a duet work that fuses live performance with the digital world. It explores Jack’s identity as an Autistic dancer and how he experiences the world. It looks at the idea of Masking – a strategy where autistic individuals suppress or conceal their natural autistic behaviours and traits to appear more neurotypical and blend into social situations.

Using digital tools to create alter egos, this exciting piece fuses popping and contemporary dance to help the audiences develop their understandings. Jack Evans is an Associate Artist with Cheshire Dance.

Step Ahead by Ben Wilson Dance

Choreographed by Ben Wilson, a professional male dancer with Down Syndrome. Step Ahead is an ensemble work that explores themes of friendship and relationships. Taking you on a nature-inspired trip that explores Ben’s unique view of the world, Step Ahead brings together contemporary dance, hip-hop elements and poetry into a moving and inspiring piece of dance.

Ben makes work that fuses Hip Hop and Contemporary dance styles. Ben is an early career artist who wants to share his unique perspectives and creative ideas. Ben is an Associate Artist with Cheshire Dance and a training artist with Frontline Dance.

“When We Meet…5 Dances”

This film shares 5 dances co-created by dancers with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) as part of Cheshire Dance’s ‘Wanna Dance?’ Programme.

Wanna Dance? is about creating 1:1 dancing opportunities for individuals with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) asking if they would like to dance, and, if so, how that dance might be. The film celebrates individual personalities and unique creative expression, sharing the dances we make together.
