Chester’s Disability Pride Parade is for anyone who identifies as disabled or neurodiverse plus support workers and allies. 2026 will be the 6th year holding this event which attracted just over 500 people in 2025 people attend from Cheshire, Wirral, North Wales and Shropshire. Chester’s Disability Pride Parade is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and congregate as a community! The day is also a great way to connect with old and new friends.
The parade is a one day event where people gather outside Storyhouse and move through the city centre of Chester. It’s an opportunity for the disability community to come out from the shadows, shout loud and proud – and celebrate their identity as a disabled person living in the UK today.
Chester is proud to be part of a small number of Disability pride parades taking place across the world. Disability Pride parade is to celebrate disability especially learning disabilities, profound and multiple learning disabilities and neurodiversity’s.
Chester’s Disability Pride Parade is a celebration of Disability and should not be mistaken with www.chesterpride.co.uk which is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
Where?
The parade starts outside of Storyhouse and follows a circular route around the city centre. The following roads are closed and the parade starts at 11am.
Northgate Street (from Storyhouse), St Werburgh Street (alongside the Cathedral), Turning right along Eastgate Street, Turning right along Northgate Street, Moving and ending at Exchange Square
Meet outside The Shropshire Arms, Cosy Club and Maray. These are pubs/restaurants right by Storyhouse. The parade will officially start at 11am. Most people arrive from approx. 10.30am to socialise and get settled.
How?
Book yourself/ your group onto this event so we know how many people are attending. We need one lead name and then the approximate number of people attending with you.
Storyhouse will contact you to confirm which position your group will take in the parade.
If you are attending as a group, it is encouraged that you create a banner and/or flags displaying your group name or the colours of the Disability Pride Flag. The parade is you – the community and the people that turn up! Bring your banners and flags. The dress code is wear whatever you are comfortable in.
Everyone is welcome to come along – whether you are living with a disability yourself, know or care for loved-ones who do, or simply want to show your support for the community!
This year music will be provided by the Kaleidoscope play list packed full of feel-good tunes playing from speakers attached to Adapted Cycles (kindly provided by LIVE!).
Think of it as a travelling rave!
When the parade gets to Exchange Square you will be met by DJ Max Mutant who will provide more music live from his decks!
Max will be joined by dancers from Cheshire Dance who will by hyping the crowd and teaching some dance routines.
Storyhouse is the producer of the parade and will organise for the roads to be officially closed.
Storyhouse staff are there to support with first aid and are fully briefed to ensure the parade is safe for everyone.
The Parade always goes ahead whatever the weather so if its forecast wet pack your waterproofs. DJ Max Mutant will be in Storyhouse for the second half of the parade instead of Exchange Square.
Packed lunches can be eaten in Exchange Square. There are also cafes and shops close by to grab some lunch.
In the afternoon of Monday 6 July, the Kaleidoscope Festival: Fashion show is taking place in Storyhouse. Please book a ticket so we know to expect you. Space is limited.
