Matilda Wormwood is an exceptionally brilliant girl stuck with a cruel, dishonest family. When she finally starts school, she finds a caring mentor in her teacher, Miss Honey, but must face the terrifying, child-hating principal, Agatha Trunchbull. Armed with a sharp mind and magical telekinetic powers, Matilda decides it is time to teach the grownups a lesson and rewrite her own story.
