STARLAC Peer Bereavement Support
Event details
Share, Talk and Remember, the Loss of an Adult Child.
Offering support from those who have experienced loss, to those who have experienced loss.
If you are grieving from the bereavement of an adult child, you might find it useful to meet with others who understand what you are going through, as they have been there themselves. The group brings together people who have experienced something similar. We aim to create a safe space where people may find solace from others in a similar position. This is different from individual support, which can be helpful but doesn’t always allow for hearing from and sharing with others. The group does not provide formal therapy because we know that for a lot of people, their biggest need is just to speak to others who have gone through something similar.
Our sessions let people know that their experiences, as painful as they might be, are a normal part of the bereavement process. Bereavement does not have a set time limit Bereavement is a human experience, and it does not necessarily get easier every day.
The sessions are led by the group itself, by people who come along, we talk about what they feel they need to talk about on the day. Our volunteers will be there to help facilitate the sessions, but it is all about what you want and need to talk about.
Some choose to share their experiences in this confidential and non-judgemental space; others prefer just to be there and listen. The decision is yours. You will be amongst friends.
